PostSubject: So have you ever...   Tue Sep 23, 2008 7:50 pm

...watched that show called Nanny 911? Each episode features a family that has out-of-control children and parents that are ready to throw in the towel. They call up Nanny Central, where a professional nanny is dispatched to show the parents how to turn their kids around.

Now, I'm not a fan of reality TV, nor am I a fan of listening to other people's children pitch temper tantrums. I am also certainly not a fan of seeing just how stupid, stubborn, or just plain clueless some parents really are. However, I have been watching the show lately. What I'm finding is that it helps relieve some anxiety I have about being a good parent. I watch the show and think to myself that no matter how bad a parent I am, I will never be as bad as these people. The nannies give these parents tips that I think are common sense, and the parents are just dazzled as if they've discovered some well-guarded secret. They all think their kids are too bad and there's no helping them. Really, it's not that the kids are bad, just that their parents suck. When the nannies come in and hand out the rules, and the parents actually start enforcing them, well I'll be damned, the kids straighten up. Who would have thought? So gosh, if I already know this stuff, I'm probably not going to be half-bad at this whole mommy business, huh?

I've never seen it..I'd prolly get so mad I'd just want to smack a parent (or a child!) LOL..

Maybe I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow. What time is it on?

I've caught brief glimpses of it, and parent beatings should be where the discipline starts. I can see where you might find comfort from it, though. And no, you'll never be that bad a parent.

I've never seen it either. Sounds like something I'd look at a few times. What channel and time?

Eh, it comes on different channels at different times... I've caught it on ABC family mostly though. And yeah, Sage, you'd probably end up so mad you'd have an aneurysm. There was one episode I watched where the house this nanny went to was a WRECK - clothes and toys everywhere - the mom's excuse was that she didn't have time to clean. So the nanny gets the kids to start cleaning their own rooms, and the mom gets mad! "They weren't doing it right," she said. The nanny tells her, "Why don't you leave us here and go vacuum or something?" I about died laughing.

LMAO I have watched it and Super Nanny. i like Super nanny better. It's the same situation in almost every home though. Daddy doesnt bother with the kids because he's tired/selfcentered/whatever. Mommy is tired/selfcentered/lazy. Kids are brats/hellspawns/pure evil undisciplined little monsters that would leave my house with broken asses.

My kids may talk back and be boogers, but they clean their rooms, playroom, pick up dirty clothes, dust, whatever I ask (sometimes despite pleas not to help). But then again we have those silly things in our house called discipline and respect.

What were we thinking?!

And Lea, you were raised right so I have no doubt in my mind that between you and niel you'll both be great parents Smile
